What if there was a way to identify a threat to a school, a business or a community before it happened? What attackers who target innocent people have in common is not their psychological conditions nor their social upbringing, but rather their behavioral actions prior to their violence. These behaviors have been studied at length for years, and are now available to the public.
Former U.S. Secret Service Agent Jason Wells outlines these behavioral conditions, which have been used by the federal government for decades to protect leaders of the world, to include the President of the United States. With this guide, members of the community can learn what kinds of behaviors should be of concern, and how society can act in a safe and proactive manner to address them.
With analysis into behavioral indicators and real-world examples in the stories of some of the most prolific attackers in U.S. history, Jason Wells sets out to empower the reader to understand that it is the national community who will protect itself from future acts of active shooter attacks, domestic terrorism, and random violence in our country. Our Path To Safety is filled with compelling true stories, gripping analysis and outlined solutions to addressing violence through behavioral interventions and positive action.

EnterTRAINment! This book may possibly save your life! A page-turner I couldn't put it down. I haven't devoured a non-fiction this fast since Freakonomics. Enjoyable, yet frightening. I had goosebumps the entire read, and because of my physical reaction, I have to give it FIVE STARS. That's an honest and well-earned review. When former Secret Service Agent, and "Good Guy" Jason Wells wrote "Our Path To Safety", he penned a thought-provoking, stimulating, and well-informed book relevant to YOUR security (as well as mine.) But I should warn you: It's both heartbreaking, as well as disturbing to read the true accounts of rampage violence occurring throughout the book...
By page 3, I had tears streaming down my face after reading the heartbreaking account, and personal interview which Mr. Wells conducted himself. At page 122, I was taking notes from the important bullet-points so I could memorize them, and be prepared. And I am confident that I am.
I am now a more informed (if not enlightened) individual and will never go into a public place seeing things the way a civilian would, but the way I've been taught to recognize them after reading Our Path To Safety, and having some basic knowledge of Mr. Wells' OA2 formula. (Observe, Assess and Act.)
Today is day three after I've wrapped the book, and I am still thinking about what I have read, who I need to recommend it to, and how I can get the word out to people to read it. I want to shake them and yell, "WAKE UP! THE WORLD IS CHANGING! WE NEED TO BECOME AWARE OF OUR SITUATION AND REFUSE TO BECOME VICTIMS OF RAMPAGE VIOLENCE!"
But the first step is recognizing the signs and the environment which leads to the behavior in the first place.
Please read the book. You won't be disappointed.

Our Path To Safety A US Secret Service Agent Guide to Creating Safe Communities edition by Jason Wells Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
Jason Wells has written a must-read book for everyone. It's unfortunate that we have to worry about protecting our lives daily at work, school, or play, but that's the reality. Jason writes about real life and death situations (the first was about a shooter in a government building) in gripping language, analyzes what happened, how these situations may have been prevented, and most importantly, how to survive them. The book should be required reading for schools of all levels; instead of lock downs and hoping for the best, this book can help administrators, students, employers and employees, reach a 'path to safety'.
Jason is a writer who writes about many safety related issues in a warm and engaging manner.
There are a lot of books on mass shootings and/or terrorism across the spectrum from the pure history of the events, to authors' perspectives on what makes the bad guys tick, and so on.
This book is different. Jason Wells covers all of that but he goes forward in really a unique way in what we as individuals can actually *do* about the situation. As a former Secret Service Agent his job was not primarily to react to a threat after the fact but to actually *prevent* the threat from happening in the first place. He uses that insight and experience to give the readers very practical tips what to watch for, how to properly assess what you've seen and heard, and finally how to take proactive steps to keep you and your family/community safe. This isn't a history book, it isn't a philosophy book on behavior - it's all of that and more with a special focus on very practical things that you can do to observe, assess, act, and prevent violence.
This is an important book, and well worth your time.
A must and easy read. Mr. Wells lays out a compelling and comprehensive narrative of the threat and how we can make our communities and families more safe.
Once in a while, you come across a book that you can not put down. The ability of this author to weave anecdotes into is work is superior. His writing is such that it makes you feel that he is sitting across from you telling you a story. His insight also makes you think about what you can do to make yourself safe. Excellent work!
I was so impressed at how Jason managed to present the facts associated with security in such a way that seemed more like a compelling actioned pact story. Better yet, I learned some things as well! To me, thats the sign of a top notch book.
After reading this book like the book indicated I would be very surprised if everyone that read it could not relate to the information given in this book. I was very impressed with the content and would recommend every parent to read it. I would recommend everyone read this book, given the condition of the country and the uncertainty with the Terrorist threat we are living with everyday. This book will make you take a step back and look at your life and family and experience moments in your life that it is possible if you had done things a bit different some of your friends or family would still be with you. The author of this book has opened his heart and shared his precise training with everyone that reads this book and believe me when I say you will be educated in areas that you may have felt you were before but realize you may not be at all after reading it. I am very impressed with its content and I am not an avid reader. If the first three chapters do not grab me I lay the book down. I did not on this one.
Mr. Wells does an excellent job of breaking it down to the average American just how delicate our safety is and how our society needs to turn up the "situational awareness" when it comes to personal protection and the prevention of violent actions. I recommend that anyone who works with large numbers of people in an "unvetted" way read this book. What I mean is that law enforcement, high school and college teachers/instructors/professors, direct contact medical professionals such as hospital staff and EMT's and of course parents will all benefit from this book. I think that all of our own personal safety and the safety of our children is our own responsibility, and the first step to being safe is understanding the threats and dangers that we all may be exposed to.
